OSU-Okmulgee announces Genesis a regional visual communications competition for high school students with creative skills and interests in illustration, multimedia or photography. The purpose is to discover, recognize and reward teen artists who have the potential for successful careers in visual communications. If you like to take pictures, draw, paint, design websites or create displays, this contest is your chance to find where those talents can lead you. Genesis is sponsored by the OSU-Okmulgeeâ Visual Communications Technologies Division. As the title of the contest implies, this is a coming into being event created to give you a chance for a fulfilling career in visual communications. It's a talent search for the best young artists, photographers, and designers in the region. Also, it's an opportunity for someone like you to discover the premier design school in Oklahoma with faculty who can help you shape your gifts into an amazing set of tools that will start you on a challenging professional path.

How to enter the Genesis competition?

We are looking for a wide variety of creative work. Drawings, paintings, and even art created on the computer can be entered the Illustration Categories. Illustrations in Black & White and Color include dry, wet and digital media. Items like graphite, pen & ink, scratch board, chalk and charcoal, printing making, hand drawn digital, watercolor, acrylics, oils, and gouache. The Photography Categories, entries can be Black & White and Color pictures of places, things, or portraits of people. If you create logos, ads, billboards or worked for your school newspaper or yearbook, enter the Graphic Design Categories. You probably have some excellent "creations" for the Multimedia Categories if you attend computer technology classes. You can enter Power Point, Flash animations, interactive CDs, Web pages or Videos.

What do I have to do?

The web site links have all the information you need to enter the "2008 Genesis Competition." Deadline for entries is February 29, 2008, the fee is $10 per person. You may enter up to four additional pieces at $2.50 each. You must be a student currently enrolled in public or private school grades 9-12, and attending school in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas or Kansas.

What can I win?

Prizes include scholarships to attend OSU-Okmulgee's Visual Communications programs, and lots of other cool stuff. Winners will be posted on the web site and published in regional newspapers. The "Genesis Competition" will conclude with a special celebration at OSU-Okmulgee Friday, April 4, 2008. This is a memorable dinner reception and awards presentation is for all entrants, teachers, judges, and families.
